Vehicle Registration
No Emissions Test Required in Harrison County
Harrison County is not one of the 17 Texas counties that require a separate emissions test, so registering your vehicle here is simpler.
Texas uses a combined inspection and registration system called Two Steps, One Sticker. In most of the state, a basic safety inspection is all that is needed. Seventeen counties — mostly in the Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, Austin, and El Paso areas — also require an emissions (smog) test. Harrison County is not on that list.
When you register or renew, you still need a passing safety inspection. But you do not need to find an emissions testing station. Check the Texas DPS website for any changes to which counties require emissions testing, since that list can be updated.
