Homestead Exemption
How to Apply for a Homestead Exemption in Tarrant County
Homeowners who live in their Tarrant County home can apply for a homestead exemption to lower their property tax bill.
A homestead exemption reduces the taxable value of your home. You file once with the Tarrant Appraisal District (TAD) — there is no fee. You must own the home and live in it as your main residence.
Extra exemptions are available if you are 65 or older, have a disability, or are a disabled veteran. A homestead also caps how much your appraised value can rise each year — the limit is 10 percent. Apply at tad.org or call TAD's exemption line at 817-284-4063.
