Property Tax Exemption

Homestead Exemption Can Lower Your Tax Bill

If your Lampasas County home is your main residence, you can apply for a homestead exemption to lower your school district tax bill.

A homestead exemption cuts the taxable value of your home. Texas law requires school districts to give this break to homeowners who live in the home as their main residence. The exact dollar amount can change, so confirm the current figure with the Lampasas County Appraisal District.

To qualify, you must own the home and live there as your primary home. Apply at the Lampasas County Appraisal District. The usual deadline is before May 1 of the tax year. Late applications may still be accepted. If you are older or have a disability, you may qualify for extra exemptions on top of the standard one. The Texas Comptroller's exemption page lists all types available under state law.
