How to Lower Your Property Tax Bill in Tyler County

Homeowners in Tyler County can file for a homestead exemption to reduce their taxable property value.

If you own and live in your home in Tyler County, you may qualify for a homestead exemption. This reduces the taxable value of your home. That means you pay less in property tax each year.

You must have lived in the home on January 1 of the tax year. You file with the Tyler County Appraisal District, not the tax office. There are also extra exemptions for people over 65 or with a disability. File before May 1 to make sure it takes effect for that tax year. Check the appraisal district's forms page for the current application.
