Deer and Turkey Hunting Rules in Brown County

Brown County hunters can take up to five deer per season with an antler restriction on bucks, and turkey hunting follows North Zone rules.

Brown County is part of a deer management zone with an antler restriction. Hunters may take up to five deer per season — no more than two bucks across all seasons combined. Only one of those bucks may have an inside antler spread of 13 inches or greater. A legal buck must have at least one unbranched antler or meet that spread requirement.

For turkey, Brown County falls in the North Zone. The season runs in both fall and spring. The statewide annual bag limit for all turkey subspecies combined is four birds. Hunters are required to report harvests through the Texas Hunt and Fish app or online at TPWD's website.

A valid Texas hunting license is required regardless of age or residency to hunt any animal in the state. Seasons, bag limits, and specific dates change year to year. Always confirm current rules on the TPWD Outdoor Annual before you go.
