You Need a Texas Hunting License to Hunt in Cherokee County

Anyone hunting deer, game birds, or other wildlife in Cherokee County must hold a valid Texas hunting license and may need additional endorsements.

Texas requires a hunting license for almost all hunters. For deer, you need a base hunting license. Migratory birds like doves and ducks require a federal duck stamp plus a Texas Migratory Game Bird Endorsement. Upland game birds like quail require a separate upland game bird endorsement.

You can buy licenses and endorsements through TPWD's online system, by phone, or at license retailers. Prices and season dates change every year. Always check the current Outdoor Annual for Cherokee County-specific rules before you hunt. Game warden contact information for Cherokee County is on the TPWD website.
