Hunting & Wildlife

Hunting in Crane County is almost entirely on private land

There is no state wildlife management area or significant block of public hunting land in Crane County — access depends on private landowner permission or a paid lease.

Crane County is rural West Texas rangeland. TPWD assigns wildlife biologists to the county, but there are no TPWD-managed public hunting lands listed for Crane County in the agency's public hunting program. If you want to hunt here, you will need a lease from a private landowner or permission from the property owner.

Mule deer, dove, and quail are typical game in this part of the Permian Basin. Hunting seasons and bag limits change each year. Always check the current regulations on TPWD's Outdoor Annual at tpwd.texas.gov before you go. A valid Texas hunting license is required regardless of what land you're on.
