Deer, Dove, and Duck Hunting Follow Specific Rusk County Rules

Rusk County falls in the North Zone for deer and Central Zone for dove, which sets the season dates and bag limits that apply here.

White-tailed deer season in Rusk County follows North Zone rules set by TPWD. The general season runs from early November through early January. The bag limit is four deer per license year, with no more than two bucks. Antler restrictions apply: only one of those bucks may have an inside spread of 13 inches or more. Youth and muzzleloader seasons add extra days.

Dove hunters follow Central Zone dates, with a fall segment starting September 1. Duck hunting uses the North Zone schedule. Squirrel season runs from October through late February with a separate spring segment in May. All hunters need a valid Texas hunting license, and migratory bird hunters need additional endorsements. Check the current TPWD Outdoor Annual for exact season dates before you go — dates can shift year to year.
