Cottle County Sits in Both Panhandle and North Zone Hunting Areas
Cottle County hunters can pursue white-tailed deer, mule deer, pheasant, quail, dove, and turkey — each with different seasons and endorsement requirements.
Cottle County falls in the North Zone for white-tailed deer and turkey, and in the Panhandle zone for mule deer and pheasant. For the 2025-26 season, the white-tailed deer bag limit is 5 deer with no more than 1 buck across all seasons. Mule deer hunters in the Panhandle must meet a 20-inch minimum outside antler spread; spikes are not legal unless they meet that spread. Pheasant season runs in December and January with a daily bag limit of 3 cocks.
Quail season runs from November through late February with a daily bag limit of 15. Dove opens September 1. Wild turkey has both fall and spring seasons. Most migratory birds require a federal duck stamp and HIP certification on top of your Texas hunting license. Seasons and rules can change year to year. Always check the current TPWD Outdoor Annual for Cottle County before you hunt.
