Hunting
Starr County has a wide variety of hunting seasons
Starr County offers deer, turkey, dove, duck, quail, javelina, and more — each with its own season dates and license requirements set by TPWD.
Starr County is in South Texas. It is well known for hunting. White-tailed deer season starts with archery in September. A general season runs through mid-January. A special late season goes into early February. The bag limit is five deer. No more than three of those can be bucks. Turkey, quail, dove, duck, javelina, chachalaca, and alligator also have open seasons here.
Most species need a Texas hunting license. Many also need an endorsement. An endorsement is an extra permit for certain game. Dove and duck are migratory birds. They require a Migratory Game Bird Endorsement and federal HIP registration. Duck hunters also need a Federal Duck Stamp.
Season dates and bag limits change every year. Always check the TPWD Outdoor Annual for Starr County before you go out.
