Hunting
White-tailed deer and quail are both legal to hunt in Taylor County
Taylor County is open for white-tailed deer, quail, dove, turkey, javelina, and several other species under TPWD regulations that change each year.
Taylor County falls partly north and partly south of Interstate 20, which splits the dove hunting zones. Hunters north of I-20 follow North Zone dates; hunters south of I-20 follow Central Zone dates. White-tailed deer season runs from archery in late September through general season in early January, with a five-deer limit and no more than two bucks. Quail season typically runs November through February.
You need a valid Texas hunting license for all game. Dove requires a Migratory Game Bird Endorsement. Quail and turkey require an Upland Game Bird Endorsement. Wild turkey harvest must be reported after each kill using the TPWD app or website. Seasons and bag limits change yearly — always confirm current rules at the TPWD Outdoor Annual before you hunt.
