Tax Bill Breakdown
Multiple taxing units appear on your property tax bill
Your Taylor County property tax bill can include charges from up to 18 different taxing units — the county, a school district, and possibly a city or water district.
Taylor County has 18 taxing units that can show up on a property tax bill. A taxing unit is any government body that can charge you property tax.
Those 18 units include the county government, nine school districts (Abilene ISD and Wylie ISD among them), seven cities including the City of Abilene, and at least one water district (Lytle Lake WCID).
Not every unit appears on every bill. It depends on your exact address. A home inside Abilene city limits pays city taxes. A rural property may only owe the county and one school district.
To see which units are on your parcel, use the Taylor County Appraisal District property search. Look up your address and it will list every taxing unit tied to that property.
