Zavala County offers deer, dove, and javelina hunting under South Zone rules

Zavala County falls in the South Zone for most hunting regulations, meaning seasons and bag limits differ from North or Central Texas.

For white-tailed deer, the general season runs from November through mid-January. The bag limit in the current TPWD outdoor annual is 5 deer, with no more than 3 bucks. Turkey season follows a similar window, with a bag limit of 4 gobblers or bearded hens.

Javelina has a nearly year-round season here. Dove falls under the South Zone calendar. Quail, duck, and other species also have open seasons — check the TPWD Outdoor Annual for the exact dates each year, since seasons and limits can change. All hunters need a valid Texas hunting license. Harvest reporting for deer and turkey is required through the Texas Hunt and Fish app.
