Know Your Hurricane Evacuation Route Before Storm Season

San Patricio County is in the Texas coastal hurricane zone. Knowing the official evacuation routes before storm season can save your life.

San Patricio County sits just inland from the Gulf of Mexico and Corpus Christi Bay. A big hurricane can bring storm surge, flooding, and strong winds. Knowing your route out before a storm hits can save your life.

TxDOT — the Texas Department of Transportation — marks the official hurricane evacuation routes along the coast. Find those routes now. Do not wait until a storm is coming.

During an evacuation, officials may reverse some road lanes. This is called contraflow. It pushes more cars inland at once. It can feel confusing if you have never seen it before.

Hurricane season runs from June through November. TxDOT's hurricane preparedness page shows the official routes. Local orders come from county officials and the Texas Division of Emergency Management.

Check the San Patricio County Office of Emergency Management website for local alerts and prep tips.
