Lake Corpus Christi Offers Good Fishing Year-Round
Lake Corpus Christi spans parts of San Patricio, Live Oak, and Jim Wells counties and is known for bass, catfish, crappie, and alligator gar.
The lake covers 18,256 acres and sits about 20 miles northwest of Corpus Christi. Anglers regularly catch largemouth bass over 5 pounds. Blue, channel, and flathead catfish are rated excellent. Crappie and white bass fishing is good. Alligator gar over 6 feet long are sometimes landed here.
All species are managed under statewide Texas fishing regulations. You need a valid Texas fishing license, which you can buy online through TPWD. The state park at the lake (address: 23194 Park Rd. 25, Mathis) has two boat ramps, a swimming area, and shoreline fishing access. The park often fills up on weekends, so reserve a campsite ahead of time through the TPWD reservations line or website.
