Lake O' the Pines Offers Fishing on Upshur County's Edge

Lake O' the Pines is a 19,780-acre reservoir on Big Cypress Creek that touches Upshur County and is managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

The lake spans parts of Marion, Morris, Upshur, and Camp counties. It sits on Big Cypress Creek in the Cypress River Basin. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers manages it. At summer pool the lake covers about 19,780 acres with a maximum depth of about 49.5 feet.

Largemouth bass, crappie, channel catfish, white bass, and sunfish are common catches. Some special regulations apply — including a mandatory-keep rule for crappie in winter months.
