Lake Tawakoni State Park Sits on the Rains County Border

The 376-acre state park on Lake Tawakoni offers camping, boat access, and shore fishing without a license.

Lake Tawakoni State Park sits on the shores of the 37,879-acre lake that touches Van Zandt, Rains, and Hunt counties. The park has more than 75 developed campsites, a four-lane boat ramp, and a fish cleaning station. Fish species in the lake include striped bass, white bass, catfish, crappie, and largemouth bass.

One useful rule: you do not need a Texas fishing license to fish from the shore inside a state park. That applies here. You do need a license if you fish from a boat on the lake. The park address is 10822 FM 2475, Wills Point. Check the TPWD park page for current fees, camping reservations, and any seasonal closures before you go.
