Flood Mapping

Harris County Is Rebuilding Its Flood Maps With FEMA Help

The MAAPnext project is creating the most detailed and accurate set of flood maps Harris County has ever had.

MAAPnext stands for Modeling, Awareness, and Assessment Project. Harris County Flood Control District is running it with FEMA grant funding. The project uses updated modeling to map flood risks more accurately across the county.

When new maps are adopted, they can change flood insurance requirements for some properties. A property that was outside the FEMA flood zone could end up inside it — or vice versa. Watch for MAAPnext updates at hcfcd.org if you own property in Harris County. When maps change, lenders and insurance companies must be notified.
