Property Tax Bill
Several Taxing Units Can Appear on Your Tax Bill
Your Jim Wells County property tax bill can include charges from the county, a school district, a city, and special districts all at once.
In Texas, more than one local government can tax the same piece of property. A taxing unit is any government body allowed to charge property tax. In Jim Wells County, your bill could include the county itself, a school district, and a city.
Common school districts here are Alice ISD, Orange Grove ISD, and San Diego ISD. If you live inside a city, that city adds its own rate. A groundwater conservation district or emergency services district may also appear on your bill.
Each taxing unit sets its own tax rate. The rates are added together to get your total rate. That total is what you pay. The Texas Comptroller's directory for Jim Wells County lists all the taxing units active here. If you are buying property, ask which taxing units apply to that exact parcel before you close.
