Moving to Texas
New Texas residents must register their vehicle within 30 days
If you move to Taylor County from another state, Texas law requires you to register your vehicle within 30 days of establishing residency and get a Texas driver license within 90 days.
When you move to Texas and set up a home in Taylor County, you have 30 days to register your vehicle in Texas. You have 90 days to get a Texas driver license from the Texas Department of Public Safety. Taylor County is not an emissions county, so no vehicle inspection is required at registration. You will pay a $7.50 inspection program replacement fee as part of your registration. Bring your out-of-state title, proof of insurance, and payment for registration fees.
For registration, go to the Taylor County Tax Assessor-Collector office at 400 Oak St., Suite 105, in Abilene, or use the TxDMV online portal. Check the TxDMV 'New to Texas' page for the current document checklist, since requirements can change.
