Appraisal Protest

You can protest your property appraisal in Rockwall County each year

If you think the Rockwall Central Appraisal District overvalued your property, you have the right to protest — and the deadline matters.

Each year the appraisal district sends notices of appraised value. If you disagree, you can file a protest with the Appraisal Review Board (ARB). The general protest deadline is May 15 or 30 days after you receive your notice, whichever is later. Missing the deadline means waiting until next year.

You do not need a lawyer to protest. Many homeowners handle it themselves by comparing their appraised value to recent sales of similar homes nearby. The Texas Comptroller's office publishes a guide on how to protest. Contact the Rockwall Central Appraisal District at 972-771-2034 or rockwallcad.com for specific instructions and forms.
