Property Tax
Who handles your property taxes in Castro County
Two separate offices handle property appraisals and tax collection in Castro County, and knowing the difference saves confusion.
The Castro County Appraisal District sets the value on your property. It is located at 204 S.E. 3rd St. (Rear) in Dimmitt. This office decides what your home or land is worth for tax purposes. You can contest that value here if you think it is too high.
The Tax Assessor-Collector at the courthouse handles billing and payments. Note that the tax office may not collect all local taxes directly — the appraisal district sometimes handles collection instead. Check with both offices if you are unsure where to send a payment or file an exemption. The Texas Comptroller's county directory lists current contact details for both offices.
