Who Handles Property Taxes in Dickens County

The Dickens County Appraisal District sets property values and handles exemption applications for all taxing units in the county.

The Dickens County Appraisal District (CAD) appraises all property each year. It then sends those values to the local taxing units — Dickens County, Spur ISD, Patton Springs ISD, the cities of Dickens and Spur, and a water control district. Each unit sets its own tax rate. You pay one bill, but several local governments split it.

If your home is your main residence, you likely qualify for a homestead exemption. Texas law requires school districts to give a $140,000 homestead exemption on the home's taxable value. You apply at the appraisal district, not at the county. The CAD is at 509 Montgomery St. in Dickens. The tax assessor-collector's office is nearby at 508 Crow St. Check the Texas Comptroller's county directory for current contacts and a full list of taxing units.
