Who Appraises and Who Collects Your Property Tax
Two separate offices handle property taxes in Hopkins County — the appraisal district sets the value, and the tax assessor-collector sends the bill.
The Hopkins County Appraisal District (HCAD) decides what your property is worth for tax purposes. It covers several school districts and three cities inside the county. The chief appraiser's office is at 858 Gilmer St. in Sulphur Springs. Call 903-885-2173 with questions about your value.
A separate office — the Hopkins County Tax Assessor-Collector — sends your tax bill and collects payment. That office is at 128 Jefferson St., Suite D, Sulphur Springs (phone 903-438-4063). If you think your appraisal is wrong, you protest at the appraisal district, not the tax office. Check the Texas Comptroller's county directory for current contact details.
