Who handles property taxes in Knox County

The Knox County Appraisal District sets property values, while a separate tax office collects what you owe — knowing the difference saves time.

Two offices handle property taxes here. The Knox County Appraisal District assigns a value to your property each year. That value is what taxes are based on. The tax assessor-collector then bills and collects what you owe. Both offices share the same building at 100 W. Cedar St. in Benjamin.

If you think your property value is too high, you protest it with the appraisal district — not the tax office. Check the Texas Comptroller's county directory for current contact info, since phone numbers and staff can change.
