Mason County Has a Separate Appraisal District and Tax Office
In Mason County, property appraisal and tax collection are handled by two separate offices, so knowing which one to contact matters.
The Mason County Appraisal District (MCAD) sets the value of your property. That value is then used to calculate what you owe. MCAD is located at 110 Moody St. in Mason. If you think your property is appraised too high, you file a protest with MCAD — not the tax office.
The county tax assessor-collector is a separate office. In Mason County, the Tax Assessor-Collector role is held by the Sheriff's office. The Texas Comptroller notes that this tax office does not collect property taxes directly — the appraisal district handles collection instead. Contact MCAD at (325) 347-5989 or masoncad.org for appraisal questions, exemption forms, and payment details. Tax rates are set each fall and can change, so check the current year's notice carefully.
