Who handles your property taxes in Throckmorton County

The Throckmorton Central Appraisal District sets property values, but a separate county office collects the taxes.

Two offices handle your property taxes here. The Throckmorton Central Appraisal District (CAD) decides what your land and home are worth for tax purposes. It is located at 144 N. Minter Ave. in Throckmorton. The county Tax Assessor-Collector is a separate office, but the Comptroller notes that this tax office does not collect property taxes — the CAD may handle that function directly. Confirm with both offices which one to pay.

Taxing units in the county include the county itself, two independent school districts (Throckmorton ISD and Woodson ISD), and the cities of Throckmorton and Woodson. Each unit sets its own tax rate. To dispute your appraised value, you file a protest with the CAD. Check the CAD website or call 940-213-1114 for current deadlines, since protest and exemption windows change each year.
