Public Land Access

Public hunting land is available in Throckmorton County

A TPWD Annual Public Hunting Permit lets you access public hunting land across Texas, including tracts in Throckmorton County.

TPWD's Annual Public Hunting (APH) permit gives hunters access to land the state leases from private owners or other agencies. The APH permit covers over a million acres statewide and costs far less than a private lease. It is valid for most of the hunting year.

To use APH land, you buy the permit from TPWD and follow the rules specific to each tract. You still need the standard Texas hunting license on top of the APH permit. Maps of participating tracts are published each year. Check the TPWD public hunting page for the current permit price, maps, and any tract-specific rules before your trip.
