Property Tax
Who Sets Your Property Tax Value in Hockley County
Two separate offices handle property tax in Hockley County — one sets your value, the other collects your bill.
The Hockley Central Appraisal District values every piece of real estate and business property in the county. It does not collect taxes. You deal with them if you want to dispute your value or apply for an exemption. Their office is at 1103 Houston St in Levelland.
The Tax Assessor-Collector's office is separate. That office sends bills and collects payments. Texas has no state property tax — all the money goes to local governments like the school district, county, and city. If you own your home as your main residence, you can apply for a homestead exemption. That reduces the taxable value. The general deadline to apply is before May 1. Check the appraisal district website or call them at (806) 894-9654 to get current rates and deadlines.
