Two Offices Handle Your Property Taxes in Anderson County

The Anderson County Appraisal District sets property values, and a separate Tax Assessor-Collector office handles billing and payment — both are in Palestine.

In Anderson County, two separate offices handle property taxes. The Anderson County Appraisal District (801 N. Perry St., Palestine) decides what your property is worth. The Tax Assessor-Collector's office (703 N. Mallard St., Suite 104, Palestine) sends your tax bill and collects payment. They are independent of each other, which surprises many new residents.

The appraisal district serves 14 taxing units — including multiple school districts, the City of Palestine, and a community college district. Each of those entities sets its own tax rate. Your final bill reflects the combined rates from every unit that covers your address. Rates are not set by the appraisal district.

If you disagree with your appraised value, you have the right to protest to the Appraisal Review Board. Deadlines and procedures change, so confirm current dates directly with the appraisal district. The Texas Comptroller's county directory lists both offices with verified phone numbers and addresses.
