Protest & Appeals

You Can Protest Your Property's Appraised Value Each Year

If you think the Cherokee County Appraisal District has set your property value too high, you have the right to protest it before the Appraisal Review Board.

Every year, the Cherokee County Appraisal District mails a notice of appraised value. If you think the value is too high, you can file a protest with the Appraisal Review Board (ARB) — an independent panel that hears disputes. The deadline to file is typically May 15 or 30 days after you receive your notice, whichever is later. Check your notice for the exact deadline.

You can protest in person, by affidavit, or in some cases online. Bring comparable sales data, photos, or other evidence that supports a lower value. The ARB hearing is informal. If you are still unhappy after the ARB decision, you can take your case to district court or use binding arbitration. Contact the Cherokee County Appraisal District at cherokeecad.com for protest forms and instructions.
