Property Tax Protest

You Can Protest Your Appraisal Value Each Year

Hood County property owners who think their appraisal is too high can formally protest, and the deadline is usually May 15 or 30 days after the notice arrives.

Hood CAD values all property at 100% of market value as of January 1 each year. Notices go out around April 15. If you believe your value is wrong, you can file a protest.

The deadline to protest is May 15, or 30 days after your notice was mailed — whichever is later. After you file, the appraisal district can set up an informal meeting or schedule a formal Appraisal Review Board hearing. Property taxes become due October 1 and must be paid by January 31 to avoid penalties.
