Appraisal Protest
You can protest your Denton County appraisal if you think it is too high
Denton County property owners have the right to protest their appraised value each year through the Denton Central Appraisal District.
When DCAD mails your appraisal notice, it includes a deadline to file a protest — typically May 15 or 30 days after your notice is mailed, whichever is later. Missing that deadline means you give up your chance that year. You can protest online at appeals.dentoncad.com or by mail. The process includes an informal review and, if needed, a formal Appraisal Review Board hearing.
Bring evidence: recent sales of comparable homes nearby, a recent appraisal, photos of problems, or repair estimates. The protest is free to file. Check dentoncad.com each spring for the current deadline — it varies by year and the notice date can shift.
