Two Offices Handle Your Property Taxes

Franklin County splits property tax work between two offices — one sets your value, the other collects the bill.

The Franklin County Appraisal District sets the value of your property each year. It sits at 310 W. Main St. in Mount Vernon. You file for exemptions — like the homestead exemption — with this office, not the tax collector. Call them at 903-537-2286 or visit franklin-cad.org.

A separate office, the Tax Assessor-Collector, sends the bill and takes your payment. That office is at 208 State Hwy 37 S. in Mount Vernon. Eight taxing units share your bill: the county, five school districts (Mount Vernon, Saltillo, Sulphur Bluff, Rivercrest, and Winnsboro), and two cities. Rates change each year, so check both offices for current numbers.
