Zebra mussels are in Ray Roberts Lake — boaters must decontaminate
Ray Roberts Lake is infested with zebra mussels, and Texas law requires boaters to clean, drain, and dry all equipment before leaving to avoid spreading them.
Zebra mussels spread quickly between lakes on wet boats, trailers, and gear. They clog pipes, damage engines, and harm native species. TPWD confirmed them in Ray Roberts Lake, which is connected to Lake Lewisville via the Greenbelt Corridor.
Texas law requires you to remove all aquatic vegetation and drain all water from your boat and trailer before leaving a water body. Gear should also be dried for several days before entering another lake. Violating the clean-drain-dry rules can result in a fine. Check TPWD for current rules before you launch.
