Sabine National Forest: Public Land in the Piney Woods

The Sabine National Forest covers more than 160,000 acres across several East Texas counties and gives the public access to camping, fishing, and boat ramps on Toledo Bend.

Sabine National Forest covers about 160,656 acres in East Texas. It spans parts of Sabine, San Augustine, Shelby, Jasper, and Newton counties. The Forest Service manages several campgrounds and boat ramps along Toledo Bend Reservoir. Some ramps are operated by the Sabine River Authority of Texas instead of the Forest Service directly.

You can fish, boat, picnic, and camp at sites like Indian Mounds and Boles Field. Fees vary by site; some day-use passes are required. Check the Forest Service website or call the Sabine Ranger District at 409-625-1940 for current fees, site conditions, and any road or trail alerts before you go.
