Fishing Toledo Bend Reservoir

Toledo Bend is a 181,600-acre reservoir on the Texas-Louisiana border, and a large part of it runs along Sabine County's eastern edge.

Toledo Bend is one of the largest reservoirs in the South. It was impounded in 1967. The lake sits on the border of Texas and Louisiana. Part of it touches Sabine, Shelby, and Newton counties on the Texas side. Anglers commonly catch largemouth bass, crappie, catfish, white bass, striped bass, and sunfish.

A valid Texas fishing license covers you on the entire lake, including the Louisiana side. Likewise, a valid Louisiana license covers the Texas side. This is the special border water rule that applies to lakes and rivers forming the state line. There is a fish consumption advisory in place; check the TPWD page for current details. The Sabine River Authority of Texas operates several public boat ramps along the Texas shore. Check tpwd.texas.gov for access locations and current fishing reports.
