County Seat

Sulphur Springs Is the County Seat and the Main Hub on I-30

Sulphur Springs sits at the intersection of Interstate 30 and State Highways 11, 19, and 154 in the center of Hopkins County, about 82 miles northeast of Dallas.

The city became the county seat in 1870 after the state moved it from Tarrant. The name comes from mineral springs in the area that were promoted as a health resort in the 1870s. Before that, the town was called Bright Star.

Today Sulphur Springs is the county's largest city and its commercial center. I-30 makes it easy to reach Dallas in about 90 minutes. State highways connect it to Commerce, Greenville, Mount Pleasant, and other East Texas towns. Most county government offices are in Sulphur Springs.
