Multiple Taxing Units Set Your Total Property Tax Bill

Your property tax bill in Rusk County combines rates from several taxing units — your school district usually makes up the largest share.

Several separate taxing units each set their own rate on property in Rusk County. These include Rusk County itself, the school district for your address (Henderson, Kilgore, Overton, Tatum, or others), any city you live within, the Kilgore College District if it covers your area, and the Rusk County Groundwater Conservation District.

Your total tax rate is the sum of all the rates that apply to your address. A home inside Henderson city limits will have a different total rate than one in unincorporated Rusk County.

The Rusk County Appraisal District's website lists all taxing entities. The Texas Comptroller's Truth in Taxation site lets you look up each entity's current rate and budget. Go to comptroller.texas.gov/taxes/property-tax/county-directory/rusk.php to start.
