Tornadoes are a real seasonal threat in Rockwall County

Rockwall County sits in North Texas where spring and fall storms bring real tornado and large hail risks that homeowners should plan for.

The National Weather Service office in Fort Worth tracks tornado history for Rockwall County back to 1880. Spring months — particularly April and May — see the most tornado activity in North Texas. Late afternoon and early evening are the peak hours. Nighttime tornadoes do happen too.

Hailstorms are also common. The DFW area often sees large hail, and Rockwall County is no different. Hail is one of the top causes of homeowner insurance claims in North Texas.

If you own a home here, check your homeowner's insurance. Make sure it covers hail and tornado damage at full replacement cost. The NWS Fort Worth office publishes tornado history data for Rockwall County. The county's emergency management page also has local tornado information.
