Windstorm Insurance
Parts of Harris County Can Get Windstorm Insurance Through TWIA
Homeowners in the eastern part of Harris County — east of Highway 146 — may qualify for windstorm and hail insurance through the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association (TWIA).
TWIA is the state's insurer of last resort for coastal windstorm and hail damage. It covers all 14 first-tier Gulf Coast counties plus parts of Harris County east of Highway 146. Communities in that zone include La Porte, Morgan's Point, Pasadena, Seabrook, and Shore Acres.
To qualify, your property must be in the designated area, you must have been turned down by at least one private insurer, and the structure must meet applicable building codes (certified with a WPI-8 form). TWIA coverage supplements a standard homeowner policy — it does not replace it. Check eligibility at twia.org or contact TDI at tdi.texas.gov.
