Vehicle Registration
Ellis County vehicles need an emissions test every year
Ellis County is in the DFW area, so most gas-powered vehicles must pass an emissions test every year before the owner can renew registration.
Ellis County is one of the Texas counties that requires enhanced vehicle emissions testing. Gas-powered passenger cars and light trucks must pass an emissions check each year. This is part of the Two Steps, One Sticker process. You get the inspection first, then you register.
Electric vehicles, diesel vehicles, motorcycles, and mopeds do not have to do the emissions test. If your vehicle fails, you cannot renew registration until it passes or you get a waiver. The TCEQ website has a list of inspection stations near you.
