Vehicle Registration in Bastrop County: Two Steps, One Sticker

Texas combines vehicle inspection and registration into one annual renewal handled through the county Tax Assessor-Collector's office.

Texas uses a system called Two Steps, One Sticker. First, you get your vehicle inspected at a licensed inspection station. Second, you pay your registration fee, which includes the inspection fee, through the county Tax Assessor-Collector. You get one sticker for your windshield that shows both are done.

In Bastrop County, the Tax Assessor-Collector handles registration. You can renew online, by mail, or in person. The office has multiple locations — check bastropcounty.gov for current addresses and hours. Some counties allow renewal at participating grocery stores, so check locally.

If you move to Bastrop County from another state, Texas requires you to register your vehicle within 30 days of establishing residency. Vehicles with out-of-state plates also need a Texas inspection. Visit txdmv.gov or the county Tax Assessor-Collector's office for current fees and requirements.
