No Emissions Test Required to Register Your Vehicle Here
San Patricio County is not one of the 17 Texas counties that require an emissions test, so registering your vehicle here is straightforward.
As of January 1, 2025, most Texas vehicles no longer need a safety inspection before you register. San Patricio County also skips the emissions test. That test is only required in 17 counties — mostly near Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, and El Paso.
You renew your vehicle registration through the San Patricio County Tax Assessor-Collector's office. That same office handles titles. You can renew online, by mail, or in person in Sinton.
TxDMV's website has a county office locator. It also lets you start an online renewal. Keep your proof of insurance current. Texas requires it to register.
