Vehicle Registration

No Emissions Test Required to Register Your Vehicle Here

Hopkins County is not in the state's emissions-testing program, so you only need a safety inspection to renew your vehicle registration.

Texas only requires emissions testing in certain high-population counties near Dallas, Houston, Austin, El Paso, and a few others. Hopkins County is not on that list. You do not need an emissions test here.

You still need to pass the annual safety inspection. Texas calls this the Two Steps, One Sticker program. You get inspected first, then renew your registration.

You register your vehicle through the Hopkins County Tax Assessor-Collector's office. That is the same office that handles property tax payments. Many registration renewals can also be done online. If you move to Hopkins County from a county that required emissions testing, that requirement goes away once your vehicle is registered here.
