Vehicle Registration

Wise County Vehicles Do Not Need an Emissions Test

Wise County is not an emissions-testing county, so you skip that step when registering most vehicles.

Texas only requires an emissions inspection in certain high-population counties. Wise County is not one of them. You do not need an emissions test here.

As of January 1, 2025, non-commercial vehicles statewide no longer need a separate safety inspection before registration either. That is one less step for most drivers.

The Wise County Tax Assessor-Collector handles vehicle registration. The state program is called Two Steps, One Sticker — you get your inspection (if one is required) and then register, all with one combined fee. Check TxDMV for current rules and the Wise County tax office for local details.
