Zebra Mussels in Lake Bridgeport Require You to Drain Your Boat
Lake Bridgeport is a zebra mussel-positive water body, meaning boaters must clean, drain, and dry before leaving.
Zebra mussels are a harmful invasive species. They clog water pipes and damage boats and gear. Lake Bridgeport has a confirmed zebra mussel infestation.
Texas law says every boater leaving a zebra mussel-positive lake must drain all water from the boat before leaving. That means draining the hull, motor, livewells, and any buckets or containers on board. Moving live zebra mussels to another lake is illegal.
If you trailer your boat to a different lake after leaving Lake Bridgeport, dry everything as much as possible. Zebra mussels can survive out of the water for several days in humid weather. Check TPWD for the current list of infested water bodies in Texas.
