Licenses / Fishing

Fishing licenses & what they cost.

Texas sells fishing licenses as packages - the license plus the endorsement for the water you'll fish. Pick by where you fish, and you're done. Here are the 2025-2026 prices for every package.

Annual packages & prices

Texas fishing licenses are sold as packages - the license plus the endorsement for the water you'll fish. Pick by where you fish: freshwater (lakes, rivers), saltwater (the coast and bays), or all-water (both). Each package already bundles its endorsement, so you don't buy one separately on top.

Package Resident Senior (65+) Nonresident Includes
Freshwater $30 $12 $58 Fishing license + freshwater endorsement.
Saltwater $35 $17 $63 Fishing license + saltwater endorsement, with a red drum tag and a spotted seatrout tag.
All-Water $40 $22 $68 Covers both freshwater and saltwater, with the red drum and spotted seatrout tags.

Senior prices are for Texas residents 65 and older.

TPWD Fishing Licenses & Packages ->

Short-term & year-from-purchase

One-Day All-Water

$11 resident / $16 nonresident

Covers both fresh and salt water for a single day - good for a one-off trip or a visitor.

Year-from-Purchase All-Water

$47 (residents only)

Valid from the day you buy it through the end of that same month in the next license year - a little more than a full year, instead of expiring August 31.

A myth to drop

All-water doesn't "save you $25"

A myth to drop: the all-water package doesn't save you ~$25 over buying separately. A freshwater package ($30) plus a saltwater endorsement ($10), or a saltwater package ($35) plus a freshwater endorsement ($5), both come to $40 - the same as all-water. Pick the package by where you fish, not chasing a discount.

Before you buy

You might not need one at all

Remember the no-license ways to fish: kids under 17, fishing inside a state park, Free Fishing Day (first Saturday in June), residents born before 1931, and your own private pond. See the exemptions on the hub.
