Ag Valuation

Agricultural Valuation (Ag Exemption) for Tarrant County Landowners

Land actively used for farming, ranching, or wildlife management in Tarrant County may qualify for a much lower tax appraisal based on what the land produces, not what it would sell for.

This is called 1-d-1 open-space agricultural appraisal. Instead of market value, TAD values the land at its productivity — what it earns from crops, livestock, or wildlife habitat. This can cut the taxable value significantly.

The application (Form 50-129) must be filed with TAD before May 1 of the year you want the benefit. The land must have been used for agriculture for at least five of the past seven years in most cases. Forms are at tad.org and the Texas Comptroller's site.
