Two Offices Handle Property Taxes in Collin County
Two separate offices deal with your property taxes. One sets your home's value. The other sends your bill and collects payment.
The Collin Central Appraisal District (CCAD) decides what your property is worth each year. That value is set as of January 1. If you think the value is too high, you can protest it. The protest goes to the Appraisal Review Board. That board is independent — it is not part of the appraisal district. It hears both sides and makes a decision.
The Collin County Tax Assessor-Collector uses your appraised value to calculate your tax bill. It also uses tax rates set by your city, school district, and the county. Tax statements go out in October. Payment is due by January 31 to avoid penalties. You can pay online, by mail, or in person in McKinney, Frisco, or Plano.
